SNOHOMISH COLD WEATHER SHELTER

The cold weather shelter is staffed by volunteers and open for anyone needing a place to stay the night. Doors open when the temperature is forecasted to fall below 32 degrees. Check in: 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm at the Snohomish Evangelical Free Church, 210 Avenue B, north side, center of the building.

Every day until March 1st, we will publish the status for the shelter on this website on the right column of this page.

Wizard of OZ outdoor experience benefiting Snohomish food bank

Follow the yellow brick road for Halloween fun in Snohomish.

A Highlands East cul-de-sac recreated the ‘Wizard of Oz’ in Halloween houses to support the Snohomish County Food Bank.

The decorations are on display now, and neighbors will dress up as the Wizard of Oz characters on Halloween night.

Last year, crowds topped 1,000 people.

Visitor’s information: 137th Place Southeast, Snohomish, Wash. 98296; open nightly. Bins are available for food donations.

SEPTEMBER IS HUNGER ACTION MONTH

September is Hunger Action Month when Feeding America and food banks ask everyone in America to take action to fight hunger in their community, all month long. Hunger Action Month is your opportunity to join a movement that has a real and lasting impact in our effort to feed more Americans than ever before.  On the local level, the Snohomish Community Food Bank has developed a Calendar of Events for September 2016 to help our community to know about, share in and fight against hunger. There are days for individual activities and there are days where you can invite your friends and family or affiliated groups to join you in participation.

cornacopiaFIRST WEEK OF SEPTEMBER:    

Sept 1:      Pick up the Hunger Action Month Calendar from the Snohomish Community Food Bank.

Sept 2:      Enjoy the Evergreen State Fair!  Get in between 10:00–1:00 for the price of 3 canned goods!

Sept 3:      Shade your Facebook Page orange (the color of hunger)                                                                                          and  Like Us on Facebook:     www.facebook.com/SnohomishFoodBank/

Sept 4:      Share your Fred Meyer Rewards points with us                                                                                                        at http://www.fredmeyer.com/communityrewards

Sept 5:      Stuff the Food Bank van with groceries at Bickford Motors, 10:00 – 4:00.

Sept 6:      Help harvest fresh produce at the Martha Perry Garden (Bailey Farm) 8:00 – 11:00

Sept 7:      Check to see if your employer has a matching gift program to add to your donation!

Sept 8:       National Wear Orange Day (Orange represents the color of hunger).

Sept 9:       It’s $5 Friday at Safeway! Pick up an extra item for the food bank.

Sept 10:      Host a Potluck dinner and talk about how to end hunger in our community

Sept 11:      National Day of Service ~ Volunteer where you will make a difference

Sept 12:      Snohomish Boys and Girls Club food drive begins.  Drop off canned veggies to the club.

Sept 13:      Try Living on a food stamp budget of $3.93 per day

Sept 14:      Pets need nutrition, too! Drop off dog or cat food to Pilchuck Vet Clinic.

Sept 15:       Drop by the Community Kitchen tonight at 901 2nd St, between 4 – 5pm

Sept 16:       Kohl’s Cares employees will serve groceries to our families today!

Sept 17:       e-mail your legislator at www.leg.wa.gov  to say that everyone should have access to food!

Sept 18:      Donate to the Snohomish Community Food Bank by mail or PayPal (Thank you!)

Sept 19:      See “A Place at the Table” on YouTube.

Sept 20:      Remember the babies ~ bring in baby food, diapers and wipes today between 8am – 6pm.

Sept 21:      Help Girl Scout Troop 41873 with their food drive at Snohomish Haggen between 4 – 6pm.

Sept 22:      Ask co-workers to have a brown bag lunch and donate the money saved to the food bank

Sept 23:      Participate in the United Way Day of Caring: getconnected.uwsc.org

Sept 24:      We are honoring our volunteers for their man hours of work (over 21,600 hours this year!)

Sept 25:      Visit Mapthemealgap.org to learn about hunger in Snohomish County.

Sept 26:      Child need to volunteer for community service?  Have them                                                                                 e-mail: scfbstudents@gmail.com.

Sept 27:      Drop off personal hygiene products at the food bank between 8am – 6pm

Sept 28:      Help Boy Scout Troop 192 with their food drive at Snohomish Haggen between 4 – 6pm.

Sept 29:      Pledge a food item to be collected for the Holidays. Call 360.568.7993 for details.
